Further Instructions for Emergency version
•
In addition to the above instructions, a secondary “un-switched” live supply should be fed to the luminaire, in line
with the “switched” mains supply. This “un-switched” supply MUST be taken from the same phase as the
“switched” supply & MUST be wired at the switchboard so that upon test, it is isolated at the same time as the
“switched” supply.
•
Route to the terminal block & terminate, ensuring correct polarity is observed.
•
Connect the battery supply to the module by joining the connectors, ensuring correct polarity is observed.
•
When power supply is reconnected, check the green LED fitted to the luminaire illuminates. This indicates that the
batteries are charging.
•
The batteries should be allowed to charge for at least 24 hours before carrying out a full discharge test to check
batteries are charging correctly & maintained duration is being achieved.
OPERATION / MAINTENANCE
•
Cleaning should be carried out at regular intervals so as not to impair photometric performance or thermal safety of
the luminaire.
•
Excessive & prolonged operation in emergency mode (working from battery supply) will result in lamp ends blackening
& reduction of life.
•
Average battery life is four years, after which time they should be replaced with a suitable equivalent.
•
This luminaire MUST be disconnected before the circuit it is installed on is subjected to any high voltage or insulation
resistance testing, otherwise irreparable damage will occur to luminaire components.
•
When the lamp operates from the battery supply it will be at a reduced light level, so ensure cleanliness of luminaires is
maintained so as not to affect performance.
•
To maintain full operational status, spare lamps should be held for immediate changing in case of failure.
TESTING FOR EMERGENCY LUMINAIRES
•
Recommended routine test procedures in line with BS 5266 & BS EN 50172:
Monthly Functional Test
•
Simulate a mains supply failure by isolating the circuit (ensuring if it is safe to do so) or by way of a test key switch if
fitted into the circuit.
•
Do this for a period of time sufficient to check that the maintained lamp illuminates.
•
Once complete, ensure the normal supply is restored & that the LED charge indicator illuminates.
•
Log result / comments in the Testing Log Book (see next page).
Annual Discharge Test
•
Simulate a mains supply failure by isolating the circuit (ensuring if it is safe to do so) or by way of a test key switch if
fitted into the circuit.
