PROTECTION DEVICES
THERMAL PROTECTION
When the amplifier becomes overheated, this protection device puts the input audio signal into
the mute status until normal operating conditions have been restored.
This intervention is signalled by the simultaneous lighting of the LEDs “TEMP” and “MUTE”.
There is also a thermal protection for the toroidal transformer, which guarantees safety even
under extremely harsh operating conditions. This protection is inserted when the amplifier works
over its capabilities.
As soon as the temperature reverses to the normality, all the functions will be restored.
The restore may take a quite long time, especially when the thermal protection concerns the
transformer, because its nucleus takes a long time to dissipate the accumulated heat.
DC, RFI PROTECTION
The amplifier is equipped with relays on the audio outputs that protect loudspeakers in the
event of direct current, radio disturbance or subsonic frequencies and has an anti-bump function
during the initial amplifier switch-on.
This protection is signalled by the lighting of the yellow LED “MUTE” on the front panel of the
amplifier. The normal operation will be automatically restored as soon as the disturbance is
eliminated.
SHORT CIRCUIT PROTECTION
The amplifier is equipped with a protection device against short circuits on the outputs. This
protection puts the input signal into the mute status and is signaled by the yellow LED “MUTE”,
which remains lit. During the mute status, the amplifier tries to restore the signal;
the normal operation is restored as soon as the short circuit condition will be eliminated. This
protection is also activated when the amplifier is delivering a too high current (too low load
impedance).
LIMITER
The amplifier has 2 limiter circuits (one per channel) that ensure a correct operation with the
input signals (up to +10 dB above the correct level), optimise the amplifier working and protect
loudspeakers against potentially damaging distorted signals.
