MTS: Choosing a Soundtrack
When you are watching a program being broadcast in stereo, you can
set your TV to play the soundtrack in stereo or in mono. Some stations
also broadcast a Secondary Audio Program (SAP). SAP programs are
usually versions of the program in another language, but they also
sometimes carry additional information like news or weather. You can
set your TV to play these SAP programs.
TV stations can broadcast these different soundtracks simultaneously
because they use Multichannel Television Stereo, or MTS. So we call
these settings “MTS” settings.
Press
MTS
to change the MTS setting. You can choose between
“Stereo,” “SAP,” and “Mono.”
• Choose
Mono
if the channel is broadcasting in mono, or if you are
having difficulty receiving a stereo signal.
• Choose

• Choose
SAP

usually a soundtrack in another language.
Viewing Closed Captions
Your TV displays the closed captions that are broadcast with some
television shows. These captions are usually subtitles for the hearing
impaired or language translations. All VCRs record the closed caption
signal and many pre-recorded commercial video tapes provide closed
captions. Check for the closed caption symbol in your television
schedule and on the tape’s packaging:
