Channel Configuration
The
Channel Configuration Menu
enables the administrator to edit the computer names, security classes, and
individual scan rates associated with each channel (Figure 15). Any device—such as a computer or any
MasterConsole unit—can be connected to MX
4
channels. To create a two-tier installation, MasterConsole units are
cascaded from one or more of the MX
4
channels. (See Two-Tier Installation on page 19.) This section describes the
channel configuration for a stand-alone MX
4
.

>, <Tab>, <Shift-Tab>, <Page up>, <Page down>, <Home>, and <End> keys to
move within the menu.

Press <Enter> to edit the field. The highlighted area will turn green. When the editing is completed, either press
<Enter> to retain the changes or press <Esc> to cancel them.
Note: Reserved Channel: If the channel shows –RESERVED—and you do not want this option set,
from within the Channel Configuration menu, move the cursor to that channel and hit the B key.
This will unblock the channel.
You can block a channel’s access by going to that channel and hitting the B key. This function will
eliminate the access by any user to that channel.

This menu displays channel information—one computer per line.

MC:
This is the name of this MX
4
—same as MX
4
ID.
•
Ch. ID:
This column displays the physical Channel ID number to which the device connects to MX
4
.
•
Name:
This column displays and allows editing of the computer name. Computer names are case sensitive
and may be up to 12 characters.
•
Sec:
This column displays the security class of the computer. Typing A-P changes the computer’s security
level; typing 0-9 changes the computer’s security group. The default value of a computer is A0. (See
Appendix A: Security Access and PublicView
for detailed explanations of security modes.)
•
Scn:
This column displays the computer’s individual scan rate. Type a number from 01 to 24, or use the
<

and

keys to increment or decrement the scan rate. The default setting is 3 seconds.
Set Second-Tier Names
This selection enables you to change the name displayed on the LCD of the second-tier MX
4
units. When this option
is selected, the base MX
4
will communicate with all second-tier MX
4
units and update their names. A confirmation
message—Names set on tiered units—will appear. (To set second tier names see Channel Configuration for Two-
Tier Installation page 23.)
If no tier names have been entered, all tiered units LCD’s will continue to display the MX
4
default tier name.
