Sampling Procedure
The sample trap is used to manually wipe a surface. Wiping a sample trap across a surface of interest effectively
removes fingerprints and fine particles, even if they are embedded into the surface. For information about sample
traps,
( see "Sample, Calibration, and Verification Traps" on page 24) .
The following lists the sampling methods:
• By hand using a sample trap
• By hand using sample trap in a sample wand
• By vapor sampling using the device
NOTE: You must resolve any warnings before beginning sampling operations. The No Alarm - Ready
screen must display in the status bar for sampling operations to occur.
IMPORTANT:Always wear clean cotton gloves (supplied with the device) when handling sample, calibration, or veri-
fication traps. Gloves reduce the transfer of finger oils and other contaminants.
By Hand Using a Sample Trap
1. Wearing clean cotton gloves, remove a sample trap from the package, or use an existing clean sample
trap that has not exceeded its sampling events.
2. If you obtained a sample trap from the package, close the cover immediately to avoid contamination.
3. Hold the sample trap by the wide end.
4. Use firm contact.
5. Sample in one direction, one time.
6. Sample the most-touched area last.
