3 FIRST USE
Before using your Keymaze Quechua 100
Home, please follow these instructions:
3.1 Batteries
The product uses two AAA/LR03 batteries. You can use alkaline (1.5V), lithium (1.5V) or rechargeable (NiMH, 1.2V) batteries.
Battery life depends on the quality and type of batteries used. Generally, using alkaline batteries from a reputable brand,
battery life in use is 9 hours. You can of course extend this period by using the energy-saving modes.
Fitting and changing the batteries:
The “crossed-out bin” symbol indicates that this product and the batteries it contains cannot be disposed of
with general household waste. They must be separated and recycled specially. Take the batteries and unusable
electronic products to an authorised collection area for recycling. Recycling your electronic waste in this way will
protect the environment and your health.
3.2 Getting started
Turn the product on by holding the START button down for two seconds (to turn it off , hold the same button down for two
seconds). When using for the fi rst time of the day, and for more reliable guidance, the product will require you to calibrate
the electronic compass.
To do this now, hold the product horizontally and turn it over slowly until the indicator bar fi lls totally and the screen
disappears. You usually need to perform
two complete turns .
IMPORTANT:
During the calibration procedure, it is important to move away from any sources or
electromagnetic interference and metal parts (including watches and metal bracelets). We
advise you to calibrate the compass outdoors. If the directions indicated are strange or erroneous, start the
calibration procedure again via the settings menu.
3.3 Detecting the GPS signal
In order to function, the Keymaze Quechua 100
Home must fi x the GPS signal from at least four diff erent satellites. After
turning the device on (the “satellite” symbol fl ashes), hold it outside, facing the sky, in the clearest space possible until the
satellite symbol is displayed constantly. This indicates that the Keymaze has fi xed the Global Positioning signal.
The time which this procedure takes varies according to a number of factors. It usually takes from
10 seconds to fi ve minutes. The factors which infl uence acquisition time are:
•The time and distance travelled since the last acquisition (it will fi rst look for the same satellites it
used last time)
•Geographic and climatic disturbances (clouds, tree leaves, mountains and buildings, for example)
•The user’s movement: as far as possible, you should avoid moving the Keymaze at an untimely
moment during this acquisition phase.
If several disturbance factors combine, acquisition may be very slow and the GPS may even not be
able to fi x the signal at all, making any use impossible.
