2.1 Installation and Setup
Before installing the 7BI1 card, be sure to check the platform strapping. The platform straps
essentially translate the 6CPP2 address signals into address signals recognizable to the
3150 Remote cards. Perform the following steps to verify or set the platform straps (see the
sample strapping in Table 2-1).
Write down the cards and their slot numbers in the 3150 Remote card frame.
Using Table 3-3, write down the two platforms which must be strapped to
select the desired slots for each card.
Using Table 3-2, note the positions on the platforms that correspond to the
card that is to be addressed.
With the above information, install a diode in the two platforms selected at
the desired position for each card.
TABLE 2-1. Sample Trapping Information
When installing the diodes, be sure to position the diode with the cathode facing toward the
higher numbered pins of the platform (9-16). The anodes should always face the lower
numbered pins (1-8). Almost any signal diode can be used (1N461A is recommended).
Installing the 7BI1 consists of unplugging the 6CP2 and replacing it with the 7BI1. A 34 pin
flat ribbon cable then plugs into the J3 connector of the 7BI1 while its other end plugs into the
J4 connector of the 6CPP2. A 6 pin cable then plugs into the J1 connector of the 7BI1. Where
it terminates would depend on the particular system application (7DPA1 or an SCU).
