Automatic Bilge Pump Switch

Inspect  the  bilge  area  frequently  for  evi-

dence of excessive water. Continuous oper-

ation  of  the  bilge  pump  can  mean  there  is

excess  water  in  the  bilge.  Test  the  bilge

pump  at  regular  intervals.  Debris  can  also

prevent the pump from operating or make it

operate continuously. Make sure no debris is

blocking the bilge pump float.

Bilge pumps and bilge pumping systems are

not designed for damage control.

Continuous operation of the bilge can mean

a leak or a drain plug is installed incorrectly;

make sure all drain plugs are installed.

Excess water in the bilge area will adversely

affect  the  handling  and  maneuverability  of

the boat and can cause personal injury. DO

NOT allow the bilge pump to operate after all

the  water  has  been  cleared  from  the  bilge

area. Damage to the pump will occur.

The bilge pump system consists of a pump

and automatic float switch. The float switch

activates the pump whenever the bilge water

level rises.

Current  is  supplied  to  the  automatic  float

switches  whenever  the  batteries  are  con-

nected. The bilge pump switch at the helm is

supplied  current  when  the

2

  (“number"  2),

battery  switch  is  in  the  "ON"  position.  The

breaker  for  the  manual  switch  located  in  a

switch panel in the cockpit.

Activate the manual bilge pump briefly each

time  the  boat  is  used  to  ensure  pumps  are

operating  properly.  The  automatic  bilge

pump is activated by a sensor switch (black

dot) located on the pump housing. This sen-

sor activates the pump when water reaches

the pre-set height.  Refer to the Water Witch

manufacturer's  information  under  "Plumb-

ing" for more information.

When the boat is out of the water, the bilge

can be drained by a thru-hull drain located in

the transom, near the bottom of the hull. It is

important to check the drain plug regularly to

make sure it is tight.

A  loose  drain  plug  will  allow  sea  water  to

enter the bilge and cause the boat to sink.

Check  the  drain  plug  frequently  to  make

sure it is secure.

Any  oil  spilled  in  the  bilge  must  be  thor-

oughly  removed  and  properly  disposed  of

before  operating  the  bilge  pump.  The  dis-

charge of oil from the bilge is illegal and sub-

ject to fine.

Exterior Drains

Your Pursuit has two scupper drains located

in the rear of the cockpit. The drain rails for

the compartments drain overboard by grav-

ity.

The forward compartments drains by gravity

through  a  seacock  which  is  accessed

through  the  aft  hatch  in  the  head  compart-

ment. The seacock should normally be in the

open position and closed only in the case of

an emergency.)

NOTICE

The federal water pollution control act

prohibits  the  discharge  of  oil  or  oily

waste  into  or  upon  the  navigable

waters  of  the  United  States  or  the

waters of the contiguous zone if such

discharge  causes  a  film  or  sheen

upon, or a discoloration of the surface

of  the  water,  or  causes  a  sludge  or

emulsion  beneath  the  surface  of  the

water.  Violators  are  subject  to  a  pen-

alty of $10,000.
