5. Handling
5.1 Previous preparations
•
Choose the appropriate hardness tester. The model Proceq ZHT 2093
equipped with rubber guiding wheels protects soft surfaces against
scratching and facilitates assessment.
•
Choose the correct pressure spring according to the estimated
hardness range by means of the colour code.
- If necessary, change the pressure spring in accordance with
chapter 4
“Changing the pressure springs” on page 9.
•
Check if the tip is free of dirt, if necessary clean it in accordance with
chapter 7
“Cleaning” on page 17.
5.2 Hardness tests
•
Carry out the necessary preparations in accordance with chapter 5.1
“Previous preparations” on page 10.
•
Adjust the spring tension by fixing the slide with the clamping screw.
•
Place the hardness tester with the tip vertically on the surface, press
the instrument against the spring tension.
- When using Proceq ZHT 2093 you need to take care that the
rubber guiding wheels are parallel to the testing direction.
•
Scribe a straight line of approx. 10 mm (0.39 inch) within 1 second.
- For scribing you can either draw or push the hardness tester.
•
Repeat this procedure with different spring tensions until the test
surface shows a visible scratch.
