Basic Principles

The cut sheet output unit guides cut sheet paper ejected from the main unit to
the face down paper output tray on the top cover.

This unit has three sets of transporting rollers: the entrance rollers, the
intermediate paper rollers, and the output paper rollers. These rollers are
driven by the main unit feed motor. (See “Main Unit Feed Roller Drive” on
page II–135 in Chapter 8, “Principles of Operation.”  In between these three
sets of rollers are two sets of guides: the output paper intermediate guide and
the output paper exit guide.

This unit also has two sensors: the output paper sensor 2 (EPS2) and the cut
sheet transport path open sensor (CWO).

The EPS2 sensor is a photointerrupter type, which detects the presence or
absence of paper. This sensor allows the printer to detect paper jams in the
cut sheet output unit.

The CWO sensor is a microswitch that senses whether the output paper
intermediate guide is open or closed. When the lever lowers on the output
paper intermediate guide support frame, it opens the output paper
intermediate guide, which opens the switch contacts on the CWO
microswitch. When the CWO microswitch contacts are open, it signals a
“transport path open” condition.
