TRIMMING A TREE (PRUNING)
WARNING:
Avoid kickback. Kickback can result in severe injury or death.
See Kickback Section to avoid risk of kickback.
WARNING:
Do not operate Pole Saw while
• In a tree
• On a ladder or any other unstable surface
• In any awkward position
You may lose control of Pole Saw causing severe injury.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY
Warning:
Repair or replace damaged or worn cord immediately.
Warning:
Don't expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will
increase the risk of electrical shock.
Warning:
To reduce the risk of electric shock, use only with an extension cord intended for
outdoor use, such as an extension cord of cord type SW-A, SOW-A, STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A,
SJOW-A, SJTW-A. or SJTOW-A.
Extension Cords
• Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, be sure to
use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized cord will cause
a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. Table 1 shows the correct size
to use depending on cord length and nameplate Ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier
gauge. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.
• Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFIC) protection should be provided on the circuits or outlets to
be used for this Pole Saw. Receptacles are available having built-in GFIC protection and maybe
used for this measure of safety.
• Use only UL listed extension cords. Inspect extension cord before use and never use damaged
or altered extension cords. Follow extension cord manufacturer safety instruction.
• To reduce the risk of disconnection of appliance cord from the extension cord during operating
use the plug-receptacle retaining straps provide or make a knot with the two cords as shown
in Table 2.
• Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord to carry the tools or pull the plug from the outlet.
• Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Replace damaged cords
immediately. Damaged cords increase the risk of electrical shock.

CUTTING WITH THE POLE SAW
1.
Connect Pole Saw to extension cord.
2.
Connect extension cord to power supply.
3. Use both hands to grip Pole Saw. Use only
designated grip areas when operating Pole
Saw. Use firm grip. Thumbs and fingers must
wrap around Pole Saw handle and pole.
4. Make sure your footing is firm. Keep feet
apart. Divide your weight evenly on both feet.
5. (SEE FIGURE 20)
When ready to make a cut, press in trigger switch lock-out and squeeze trigger
switch. This will turn Pole Saw on. Releasing trigger switch will turn Pole Saw off.
6. Make sure Pole Saw is running at full speed before starting a cut.
7. When starting a cut, place moving chain against wood. Hold Pole Saw firmly in place to avoid
possible bouncing or skating (sideways movement) of Pole Saw.
8. Guide the Pole Saw using light pressure. Do not force Pole Saw. It will do the job better and
safer at the rate for which it was intended.
9. Remove Pole Saw from a cut with Pole Saw running at full speed.
10. Stop the Pole Saw by releasing trigger.
11. Make sure chain has stopped before setting Pole Saw down.
Switch Lock-out
Switch
• Do not add too much tension to the chain; this will create excessive wear and will cause a
reduction in the usable life of the chain and bar.
• After chain tension is correct, tighten guide bar knob firmly. If not, guide bar will move and
loosen chain tension. This will increase the risk of kickback. This can also damage Pole Saw.
Note:
A new chain will stretch. Check new chain after first few minutes of operation. Allow
chain to cool down. Re-adjust chain tension.
WARNING:
Do not extend Pole Saw handle above shoulder height.
CAUTION:
Seek professional help if facing conditions beyond your ability.
Trimming a tree (pruning) is the process of cutting limbs from a living tree.
Make sure your footing is firm. Keep feet apart. Divide your weight evenly on both feet.
Follow directions below to trim a tree.
