OPERATION
The tool can install a boot on both the outer and inner CV joint. The tool’s
operation instructions for both procedures are the same, except where indicated
in the steps below.
1. Clean the area around the old CV boot and joint.
2. Remove the clamps on the old CV boot and discard.
3. Cut the old CV boot away from the CV joint. Use wire cutters to prevent
damage to the joint while cutting through the CV boot.
4. Remove the CV boot and discard. Clean the old grease from the CV joint.
5. Connect the tool to an air source.
6. Place the CV boot on the contracted expansion arms of the tool.
a. Outer Boot – Place the CV boot with the wide end against the plastic
body and the narrow end at the tips of the expansion arms.
b. Inner Boot – Place the CV boot with the narrow end against the plastic
body and the wide end at the tips of the expansion arms.
7. Press the brass button with a ‘+’ symbol next to it to expand the arms.
Hold the button until the end is wide enough to fit over the CV joint.
Release the button. The tool will retain the air pressure.
a. Inner Boot – You may need to hold the end of the CV boot in place or
compress it, until the expanding arms are wide enough to hold it.
8. Maneuver the expanded CV boot over the end of the CV joint and into
position.
9. Press the silver button on the opposite side of the handle to release the air
pressure. The arms will contract. Push the CV boot off the tool’s arms once
the tension is released.
10. Fill with air again to expand the arms enough to remove the tool.
11. Position the new CV boot over the CV joint.
12. Secure the narrow end with a new clamp.
13. Pull the upper part of the boot back so the bottom is pressed against the
CV joint. Fill the CV Joint and CV boot with grease. Restore the CV boot to
its natural position.
