Alarm System
Operating principle
The alarm system monitors the following alarm
contacts:
– Alarm contacts in the doors, hood, and trunk
– Passenger compartment monitoring system:
movement in the vehicle interior with the vehicle
locked, such as attempted theft with a window
broken
– Tilt sensor: tilting of vehicle (e.g. during a tow-
away attempt)
– Diagnostic socket
Switching the alarm system on/
off
e The alarm system is activated after approx. 30
seconds when the vehicle is locked.
e The alarm system is deactivated when the ve-
hicle is unlocked.
The central display can also be used to set whether
interior monitoring and the tilt sensor functions are
to remain shut off once the vehicle is locked.

Information
If the vehicle is unlocked using the emergency key in
the door lock, the power switch must be pressed
within 15 seconds after the door is opened to pre-
vent the alarm system from being triggered.
The time it takes to trigger the alarm system differs
from country to country.

when the alarm has been

e Press the button on the vehicle key.

Press the power button and turn on the vehicle.
Deactivating interior monitoring
and inclination sensor
If people or animals are remaining in the vehicle, the
interior monitoring system and inclination sensor
can be deactivated when locking the vehicle.

Alarm system function display
The lock status is indicated by the light indicators in
the front doors flashing at different frequencies.
Alarm system is activated
The light indicators flash rapidly when the vehicle is
being locked, then flash in normal mode.
The alarm system is activated and the pas-
senger compartment monitoring system and
inclination sensor are deactivated
The light indicators flash rapidly when the vehicle is
being locked, go out for 28 seconds and then flash in
normal mode.
Faults in the central locking system and alarm
system
During locking of the vehicle, the light indicators
flash rapidly, light up continuously for 28 seconds
and then flash in normal mode.
Preventing theft
Before leaving the vehicle, always:
e Close all windows. This will also prevent a false
alarm by the passenger compartment monitoring
system.
e Press the P button to activate the parking lock of
the drive and parking brake.
e
Close the glove compartment.
e Close all storage compartments.
e Remove valuables, car papers, phone and house
keys from the vehicle.
e Close the doors, hood and trunk lid.
e Lock the vehicle.
Immobilizer
Every vehicle key contains a transponder (electronic
component) with a stored code.
An authorized vehicle key is required in order to de-
activate the immobilizer and make the vehicle ready
for operation.
