Gearcases
Gearcase Specification Chart
Transmission (Main Gearcase)
Always check and change the transmission oil at the intervals outlined in the Periodic Main-
tenance Chart beginning on page 43. Maintain the oil level even with the bottom of the fill
plug hole threads.
Refer to the Gearcase Specifications Chart for recommended lubricants, capacities and
torque specifications. See page 76 for the part numbers of POLARIS products.
Oil Check
The fill plug is located on the rear of the gearcase. A level check/alternate fill plug is located
on the side of the gearcase. Maintain the oil level even with the bottom of the level check/fill
plug hole threads.
1. Position the vehicle
on a level surface.
2. Remove the level
check/fill plug.
Check the oil level.
3. Remove the rear fill
plug and add the
recommended oil as
needed.
4. Reinstall both fill
plugs. Torque to
specification.
Oil Change
The drain plug is located near the bottom of the gearcase.
1. Remove the rear fill plug and the level check/fill plug.
2. Place a drain pan under the gearcase.
3. Remove the drain plug. Allow the oil to drain completely.
4. Clean and reinstall the drain plug. Torque to specification.
5. Add the recommended oil.
6. Reinstall both fill plugs. Torque to specification.
7. Check for leaks. Dispose of used oil properly.
