Introduction
Thank you for purchasing a Plextor 12PleX, the first twelve speed CD-ROM drive with
professional quality specifications. The 12PleX is also the first twelve speed CD-ROM
drive able to self-configure SCSI IDs (when purchased in kit form with a SCSI interface
board or otherwise connected to a SCAM compliant SCSI interface board). We will
discuss this capability in more detail in Chapter 6. The 12PleX is the first Plextor
CD-ROM drive released as both a tray version and caddy loading version.
Throughout the rest of this manual we will use the following model numbers when
necessary to distinguish between internal and external drives, as well as tray and caddy
loading mechanisms:
PX-12CSi (Internal caddy drive)
PX-12CSe (External caddy drive)
PX-12TSi (Internal tray drive)
PX-12TSe (External tray drive)
If we drop the ‘‘i’’ and ‘‘e’’ from the model number, it means the topic applies to
both internal and external drives. If we replace the ‘‘C’’ or ‘‘T’’ with an ‘‘X,’’ it means
the topic applies to both the caddy and tray versions of the drive. Finally, if we use
PX-12XS as the model number, or simply say 12PleX, it means the topic applies to
all versions of the 12PleX.
We appreciate the confidence you have shown in us. Our goal is to put you----and
keep you----on the leading edge of CD-ROM drive performance. To get you there, we
first have to help you install your 12PleX drive properly and operate it correctly. After
that the responsibility is yours to discover the applications that make a CD-ROM drive
such a powerful and exciting addition to your system.
