4.7 Storm Control
The Storm Control function enables each port to drop broadcast packets (Destination MAC Address is
“FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF) after a continuous received broadcast packets counter count of the defined value of rate threshold..
This function is to control the
Broadcast
Storm and
Multicast
storm packet on each port. The screen

Description

Storm Control
Enable or disable this broadcast storm protection function by selecting the cor-
responding line on the pull-down entry field.
•
Enable
– Enable broadcast storm protection function and drops the incoming
broadcast or multicast packets.
•
Disable
– Disable broadcast storm protection function and forwards the in-
coming broadcast or multicast packets to all ports.
The factory default is
Disable
.

Mode
The PoE switch can handle multicast frame as a broadcast frame in broadcast
storm protection function by setting this mode:
•
Broadcast Only
- Packets with DA equal to
FFFFFFFF
are handled as
broadcast frame in broadcast protection function.
•
Broadcast and Multicast
- Packets with DA equal to
FFFFFFFF
or Multicast
frame (
01005EXXXXXX
) are handled as broadcast frame in broadcast protec-
tion function.

Rate Threshold
A port of the PoE Switch begins to drop broadcast packets if the received
broadcast packets are more than the threshold defined in the Rate Threshold
value:
