Maintenance
The guide screw must be lubricated with the help
of light machine oil as needed. The gears are
driven in an oil bath gearbox and it should not be
necessary to change this oil more than once a year
unless the oil becomes contaminated or leakage
occurs due to incorrect placement of the gearbox
housing. To change the oil in the gearbox, proceed
as follows:
1. Disconnect the machine from the power
source.
2. Place the saw arm in a horizontal position
3. Remove the four screws (A) Fig.20 and the
gearbox cover (B) and gasket.
4. Remove the old oil from the inside of the
gearbox and replace the oil with 140 weight
gearbox oil, available at Verktygsboden. The
new oil should only reach the edge (C) Fig. 21
on the gearbox. Avoid flooding the oil. Replace
gasket, cover and the four screws removed in
STEP 3.
Choice of saw blade
A band saw blade is a steel band subjected to
enormous loads. Be sure to use quality blades for
different types of sawing operations. This bandsaw
accepts blades with 12.5 mm width x 1638 mm.
Bandsaw blades can be purchased welded and
ready to use from Verktygsboden. There are
several important factors to consider when
choosing a blade.
TEETH DIVISION - The number of teeth per inch
(TPI) on the blade, also known as tooth division.
Choose a blade that ensures that at least three
teeth are in contact with the workpiece while
sawing. This helps to distribute the sawing forces
and avoids tooth breakage.
TOOTH SHAPE - There are four common shapes of
teeth on the blade: buttress, claw-tooth, precision
and tungsten carbide. Precision is the most
common and is the type that comes with this saw.
See fig. 22. It is the most versatile and it gives a
good finish.
TOOTH SET - Set is the degree to which the teeth
are bent away from the blade. Typical teeth styles
are ”raker”, wave and straight set. ”Straight” is the
most common with one tooth opposite to the right,
the next to the left and the third is straight. One
wave set will have 3-4 teeth bent gradually in one
direction, the other in a wave-like pattern. A straight
set is alternating teeth set right and left. Always
choose and use a blade of good quality and
choose the right blade for the job. Discuss your
requirements with your supplier to make sure you
get the type of blade that best suits your needs.
Blades of poor quality and improper use are often
the cause of premature blade breakage. Many
conditions can lead to breakage. Damage to the
blade is in some cases unavoidable, as it is the
natural result of the stress to which the blade is
subjected.
Damage to the blade can also be due to avoidable
causes. Avoidable damage is usually the result
of poor maintenance or carelessness on the part
of the operator when mounting or adjusting the
blade and guides. The most common causes of
blade breakage are: (1) Improper alignment and
adjustment of the guides (2) Insufficient number of
teeth contacting the workpiece. (3) Feeding is too
fast, (4) Dull teeth or absence of sufficient set, (5)
Excessive tension of the blade (6) A blade with too
rough or incorrect welding. (7), The saw blade gets
stuck when not in use.
