949-DM UN (Rev04_090922)

126353-03

4.2   Master-slave operation

In master-slave mode, the PHC dimmer 949 DM UN is used as

master dimmer

. It can

be combined with max. 31 universal dimmers 439 UN REG

(slave dimmers)

. The slave

dimmers follow the switch and dimming behaviour of the master dimmer.

•  Set

slave dimmer

 to

operating mode 8

.

•  Connect slave dimmer to control port (S1-S3) of the master dimmer.

Note:

Button inputs T1..T3 and the 0..10 V input of the slave dimmer have been deactivated.

5.   Installation and commissioning

5.1   Safety information

Iinstallation, commissioning and programming may only be done by an authorised elec-

trician. Mains power (230 V ~/50 Hz) to electrical equipment must be switched off during

installation. Applicable laws and standards of the country in which the device is operated

must be observed!

5.2   Installation

The PHC module is designed for mounting on a 35mm top hat rail acc. EN 50022 in in-/

on-wall distribution housing. The devices can be mounted directly next to each other.

One of the three external conductors L1-L3 can be connected to terminal L for the power

supply (230V~/50-60 Hz) of a dimmer. A fuse or circuit breaker (max. 16 A) has to be

in the supply line!

Caution!!

Due to the development of heat on the dimmer, please ensure sufficient di-

stance to the upper distributor rows!!

a)   Important installation information!!

  •  Ensure max. cable cross-section (2.5 mm²) and cable length (100m) of supply line.

  •  Do not exceed maximum load or fall below minimum load (see Point 3.2).

  •  Note connection restrictions (see Point 3.4).

  •  Do not switch power outputs

 parallel.

  •  Ensure even load distribution.

  •  Do not lay control cables (S1-S3) parallel to consumer and AC power lines.

  •  Use separate connection cables for control lines (S1-S3).

  •  Ensure correct pole connection of the control lines (S1-S3).

  •  Do not connect mains supply to the control port (S1-S3).

b)  Installation of connection lines

  •  Connection supply line (230V/50Hz~) to terminal L and N.

  •  Connect load to be used to terminal

 .

  •

Master-slave operation only!

Connect control port of master dimmer 949 DM UN

    with slave dimmer(s) 439 UN REG (terminals S1, S2, S3).

c)  Data connection

Establish data connection between PHC dimmer 949 DM UN and neighbouring mo-

dule or module in the next distributor row. The connection is made through the PHC

bus line via the modular sockets of the module.

The modular sockets are switched parallel except in the PHC power supply and

therefore freely selectable as in- or output.

    Notes:

  – Switch off power supply before connecting or disconnecting bus line.

  – The module can be positioned anywhere in the data line.

  – The module is supplied with voltage by the bus line.

  – A PHC bus line of 30 cm length is included in the scope of delivery.

d)  Coding switch

The coding switch sets the module address of the PHC module. The setting of the

coding switch is presented in the PHC software under menu item

    „

Components

a

 Modules

“.

    Notes:

  – Before setting the module address, the PHC module needs to be switched off and

it must be secured against electrical discharge.

  – Do not set the same module addresses for PHC dimmer modules.

5.3   Programming

The input and output functions of the master dimmer are programmed for the PHC sy-

stem with the PHC software as of

Version 2.50

 (see PHC manual).

The switching status of the PHC dimmer module during voltage starting can be set in the

PHC software. The switch-on conditions „Dimmer OFF“, „Dimmer Memory“, and „Dim-

mer ON“ can be set under the menu item „

Components

a

Switch-on conditions

“.

The switch mode „Dimmer OFF“ is the default setting for the dimmer module. The „Dim-

mer Memory“ switch mode is used, for example, if the dimmer module should return to

the previous dimming value after the power was cut.

5.4   Commissioning

•  Carry out assembly and installation.

•

Master-slave operation only!

Set slave dimmer 439 UN REG to operating mode 8.

•  Switch on electrical system (supply line/s).

•  Carry out programming and program transfer with PHC software.

6.   Operation and functions

The device cannot be operated manually. Operation is carried out through buttons, swit-

ches, or sensors which are connected to the PHC input modules.

The input and output functions of the dimmer have to be programmed in the PHC soft-

ware (see PHC manual).

7.   Troubleshooting & remedies (electrician only)

7.1   New system or existing system

•  Check circuit breaker and power supply of the dimmer.

•  Check connected load (note maximum and minimum load).

•  Check module address (coding switch).

•  Check connection lines.

•  Check PHC programming and transfer again (see PHC manual).

•  Check dimmer curve and transfer again (see PHC manual).

•

Master-slave operation only!

Check operating mode of the slave dimmer 439 UN REG (operating mode 8).

Note:

Round control impulses or voltage fluctuations may become visible as flickering

light when dimming power is set low. This is not a deficiency of the dimmer and does not

qualify as reason for complaints or reclamation!
