• SmartNode Installation

Connecting cables

Connect the cables in the following order:

1.

Connect the ISDN terminals and NT to the BRI ports (see section

“Connecting ISDN terminals and NT

to the SmartNode device’s ISDN BRI ports”

2.

Install the RJ-11 voice port (FXS)/(FXO) cable or cables (see section

“Installing an interface cable on the

SmartNode device’s FXS and FXO interface ports”

3.

Connect the 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet LAN and WAN (see section

“Connecting the 10/100/

1000Base-T Ethernet LAN and WAN cables”

4.

Connect the power mains cable (see section

“Connecting the power supply”

Installation cable requirements for the WAN interface (SN5550 /2G, /4G, /AVA, /AVB /F Models)

The SmartNode SN5540 series comes with an optional Fiber-SFP, G.SHDSL(EFM-ATM) or VDSL-ADSL
WAN interface. For DSL lines use a straight-through RJ-45 cable to connect the WAN port.

Installation cable requirements for the SFP for Fiber WAN module (SN5550)

The SmartNode Model SN5550 comes with an option for an SFP for Fiber WAN module. For details about
the tested and compatible SFP modules see

Connecting ISDN terminals and NT to the SmartNode device’s ISDN BRI ports

The SmartNode device comes with two or four ISDN BRI ports located on the rear panel (see

page 34). All ports can be connected to the PSTN (ISDN NT) or terminals

Do not work on the system or connect or disconnect
cables during periods of lightning activity.

The Interconnecting cables shall be acceptable for external
use and shall be rated for the proper application with
respect to voltage, current, anticipated temperature, flam-
mability, and mechanical serviceability.
