Alarm
An alarm time can be set in quarter-hour
increments at least 30 minutes and no more than
22 hours in advance. Pull the crown out to position
A (Alarme = alarm) (as displayed by the crown
position indicator between 4 and 5 o’clock) and
set the hand with the crown in the 24-hour alarm
dial at 12 o’clock to the desired alarm time. If it is
not precisely aligned with a quarter-hour marker,
the closer quarter-hour will be selected. The
alarm will always sound two minutes before the
full quarter-hour: if 8:45 is set as the notification
time, the Grandmaster Chime sounds the time
at 8:43 with 8 strikes for the hours, two triple
strikes for the quarter-hours, and 13 strikes for
the minutes. Push the crown home again and
press the pusher at 2 o’clock to activate the alarm
function. The bell-shaped window at 1 o’clock
switches from white to red.
From now on, all other strikework modes are
disabled. As soon as the alarm sequence has
ended, the bell-shaped window will change to
white and all other strikework modes are enabled
again. The alarm function can be interrupted
manually by pulling out the crown to position A
and waiting about 5 seconds for the bell-shaped
aperture to change to white. Warning: during this
lapse of time do not push the crown back into
position R.
IMPORTANT: It is strictly forbidden to make
any correction to the alarm before the bell-
shaped aperture has changed from red to
white.
Grande Sonnerie
The
Grande
and
Petite Sonnerie
as well as the min-
ute repeater can only function if the bell-shaped
window at 1 o’clock shows white. If it is red, the
alarm function is active and all other strikework
modes are disabled.
A small slide S opposite the crown in the case
flank at 9 o’clock allows the strikework mode to
be selected. If the slide is in the center position
(notch aligned with 9 o’clock), the
Grande Sonnerie
mode is active: at the top of each hour, it auto-
matically sounds the hours with low tones. Every
quarter-hour, it first sounds the hours and then
the quarters with triple strikes. When the slide is
shifted toward 12 o’clock, the mode switches to
Petite Sonnerie
: at the top of each hour, it sounds
the hours with low tones. Every quarter-hour, it
sounds the quarters with triple strikes. Shifting
the slide toward 6 o’clock mutes the strikework
mechanism (Silence). The selected strikework
mode is indicated by the display between 7 and 8
o’clock: a small hand points to G (
Grande Sonnerie
),
P (
Petite Sonnerie
) or S (Silence).
Minute repeater
The minute repeater strikes the time on demand
at any hour. It is activated by pressing the pusher
RM in the crown all the way in and releasing it
again. Now, the watch sounds the hours, quarter-
hours with triple strikes, and minutes indicated
on the dial.
The hands should not be adjusted while the
minute repeater sequence is running and for five
seconds after the last strike. All other functions
are blocked by elaborate isolator mechanisms to
prevent the movement from being damaged.
