OPERATION (cont.)
•
Align indicator mark on the fence with the centerline on the work piece. Make sure
the base or vertical fence is pressed flat against the mitred edge of the work piece.
•
Plug your biscuit joiner into the power supply and prepare to cut slot.
•
Slide the switch trigger to turn on your biscuit joiner and then push it forward to
extend the blade into the wood.
•
When the base assembly bottoms out against the depth of cut adjustment knob
setting, pull back releasing pressure on the spring. Blade will retract from biscuit slot.
•
Repeat this procedure for cutting mating slot and all required mitre joint slots.
•
Once all biscuit slots have been cut, place a biscuit in each joint and dry assemble
the work pieces. Make sure each joint lines up and fits.
•
Finally, disassemble the work pieces and place a bead of glue in each slot. Also,
spread a bead of glue over the entire surface of the joint. Reinsert the biscuits and
assemble the work pieces.
•
Clamp work pieces together until the glue sets.
If the work pieces are the same thickness, clamp securely to a work bench with the
short sides up. Set fence angle at 45º; place your plate joiner on the work piece with
the adjustable fence resting on the short side of the work piece and the base or
vertical fence against the mitred edge of the work piece. Follow steps above to cut
required slots. Remember: Before cutting slots, make sure blade will not cut through
the work piece and that both the vertical and horizontal fences are pressed flat against
the mitred edge and face of the work piece.
Store your biscuits in a clean dry container. They can absorb humidity from the
air and swell rendering them useless.
If you notice the wood burning or smoking during a cut, it’s time to sharpen
or replace the blade.
Laying out the joints to be performed is one of the easiest features of this tool.
For most butt joints all you have to do is draw a line between the two pieces
and align the centre mark on your joiner, with this mark.
Types of joints that can be performed by your biscuit joiner are:
•
Edge to edge joint (i.e. Table tops)
•
Mitre joints (i.e. picture frames)
•
Butt joint (end to end)
•
Corner joints (i.e. drawers)
•
T joints (i.e. book shelves)
