Test t.12 Setting Stepper Motor Operating
Mode
This test permits setting of the operating mode for the stepper motor, used to control a
Needle Valve, for automatic filling as described in section 5.2. If a motorised valve is not
in use, this setting will have no effect. Entering test 12 produces the prompt
"S n"
indicating that the Needle valve is to be configured, where "n" is the current value in the
range 0 to 7. The default value of 0, provides no automatic closure of the valve at power
up. Settings of 1 to 7 provide automatic closure of the valve at power up, with full travel
steps of 65536 to 1024 respectively in binary increments. (This test is only present on
firmware version 1.04 and later.)

Test t.13 Manual Adjustment of Needle Valve
This test allows the position of the needle valve to be set manually using raise and lower,
whilst in test mode. It is primarily intended to allow the valve position to be controlled
whilst leak testing a system. Entering this test displays the message
"nEd"
(for needle
valve). Pressing SILENCE displays the position setting as a percentage and allows this to
be adjusted by RAISE or LOWER. 0% corresponds to the valve being closed, and 100% to
fully open. (Applies to firmware version 1.04 and later.)

Test t.14 Setting Helium Probe Wire
Resistivity
This test enables the wire resistivity to be set for any channels configured for use with a
helium level probe. When test t.14 is selected the display will show
“rES”
. Pressing and
holding SILENCE will show the nominal resistivity in ohms per metre, which may be
adjusted by means of RAISE and LOWER. For the normal Oxford Instruments probes, this
should be set to approximately 166 ohms per meter. For long probes, using a thicker
probe wire, the nominal setting is 61.2 ohms per metre. Note that this setting is not
critical. Small differences in resistivity between probes will automatically be compensated
for when the 0% and 100% calibration is carried out.
This test only applies to instruments with firmware version 1.08 or greater. Prior to this
version the resistivity was fixed at a value of 178 ohms per meter, suitable for the normal
probes (The difference between 178 and 166, reflects a small change in the properties of
the wire between batches.)

A Final Reminder
After setting up the instrument, please remember to STORE the results before switching
off or they will be lost. To STORE, press and hold any 0% or 100% key (it does not
matter which) and press and release SILENCE. The channel 1 display should show
"Sto".
If it shows
"Pro"
instead, the internal switch S2/2 is in the OFF position and must be set
to ON before data can be stored.
