The ends/arms of the chest-shoulder bracket are between the upper body and the back support, and the upper
body harness straps do not lie flat against the body. This can lead to pressure points.
•
Putting the chest-shoulder bracket on too loosely may cause it to shift out of place. In this case, the user may
not be able to reach the joystick reliably.
•
The chest-shoulder bracket collides with devices, accessories or supply hoses during attachment and adjust
ment, restricting their functionality.
4.2 Settings
Adapting the chest-shoulder bracket to the user
1) Turn off the control device.
2) Position the user in the seat (see above). If necessary, select an article of clothing generally worn by the user
while driving the power wheelchair.
3) Place the U-shape of the chest-shoulder bracket against the user's sternum from the front (see title image). The
ends/arms of the bracket protrude upwards (not illustrated).
4) Shape the ends/arms of the bracket to the user's chest-shoulder region (see fig. 2). This is best accomplished
with the help of a sturdy, cylindrical object (such as a pipe). The ends of the bracket end at the back of the
upper body behind the acromion (highest point of the shoulder blade).
5) Check for a firm fit. Make sure the chest-shoulder bracket does not squeeze the user's torso. The ends/arms of
the bracket may therefore not be located between the upper body and the back support.
Adapting the straps of the chest-shoulder bracket to the user
1) Engage the upper body harness straps in the shoulder region (see fig. 3, item 1) and cross them behind the
upper body (see fig. 3, item 2). The upper body harness straps have to lie flat against the body.
2)
If necessary:
Insert the small closure strap (see fig. 4, item 1) on the front of the chest-shoulder bracket into
the fastener (see fig. 4, item 2).
3) Pass the upper body harness straps around the body to the front and insert them into the strap closures (see
fig. 4, item 3).
4) Adjust the length of the upper body harness straps with the strap closures.
If necessary: Shorten the strap ends
1) Shorten the upper body harness straps after all adjustments have been made. However, consider that the user
will wear clothing of varying thicknesses.
2) Melt the strap ends with a lighter to prevent them from fraying (see fig. 5).
Positioning the joystick
1) Position the user in the seat. Put the chest-shoulder bracket on the user. Fasten the upper body harness straps
(see above).
2)
If necessary:
Insert the retaining bracket for the joystick into the holder (see fig. 6, item 1).
3) Set the joystick onto the holder and secure it with the Allen screws (see fig. 7, item 1).
4) Adjust the position in space (height, depth, angle) to the user's needs with the Allen screws / grub screw on
the retaining bracket (see fig. 7, item 2).
5) Verify correct position of the joystick. The user must be able to carry out all required control operations using
the joystick.
4.3 Instructing the user/attendant
The correct fit of the chest-shoulder bracket and joystick on the user's body is an important prerequisite for the cor
rect operation of the joystick's control functions. It is therefore essential to instruct the user and attendant how to
attach the chest-shoulder bracket on the user's body before handing over the product.
The distances between the joystick and the user's body (chin, lip, tongue) may also have to be adjusted or readjus
ted by the attendant on a daily basis. The attendant must be instructed accordingly by the qualified personnel.
The information in the section "Use" can be used for instruction.
5 Use
5.1 Using the product
Fastening the chest-shoulder bracket on the user
