50C72=* Ottobock Cervical SOM Orthosis
Thank you for using an Ottobock device. The following information provides
information about the fit and use of the device. Please read the entire document
carefully before use and ask questions or clarification.
Practitioner fitting instructions are provided on page 3.
Indications for Use
• Controls unwanted cervical flexion/extension and rotation.
• Offers post-operative support and immobilization.
User Instructions
CAUTION
Usage Restrictions
This device is intended for single patient-use only. Reuse of the device is prohibited.
The daily use of the device depends on the medical indication and the prescribing
physician orders.
• Carefully follow all instructions provided by the practitioner and your prescribing
physician.
• Your device should only be removed to wash your face and neck and to change/
clean the liners, unless otherwise instructed by your practitioner or physician.
How to Apply
1. Face a mirror, if possible, to make it easier to reapply the device.
2. To reapply the device, place the front part of the brace with the chin portion on
your neck.
3. While securely holding the front portion to your neck, carefully position the back
portion around the back of your neck, pull the straps forward until the device is
snug, and insert the straps into buckles and secure.
How to Remove
1. To remove the device, release the buckles and slide the straps out on one side of
the device, carefully remove the device and set it aside.
2. Keeping your neck still and straight, gently wash and thoroughly dry your face
and neck.
3. If necessary, replace liners with clean, dry liners.
Cleaning and Care
CAUTION
It is important to ensure the device is kept clean and dry. Do NOT use a washing
machine, dryer, bleach, or harsh chemicals to clean the device.
1. Remove the three liners that are attached to the plastic shell with hook and loop.
2. Hand wash the liners with mild soap and water.
3. Rinse thoroughly and gently squeeze to remove excess water. Allow to air dry
thoroughly, approximately 6-8 hours.
4. The plastic shell can be cleaned with mild soap and water, if needed. Towel
dry thoroughly.
