4 Handling
4.1 Preparing for assembly
For mounting the elbow component you need a prefabricated inner socket
and a shaped foam part for the outer socket. Inner socket and shaped
foam part need to be connected to each other.
Before mounting the elbow component, check whether the 16Y27 Joint
Piece with Cable Lock has to be mounted on the medial or lateral side.
This decision is dependent on the movement abilities of the patient. Medial
positioning of the joint piece with cable lock is recommended (Fig. 2, arrow).
4.2 Assembly
1) In order to determine the position and length, temporarily attach all
components (including the wrist unit and terminal device) to the shaped
foam part (Fig. 2).
2) In case of unilateral fittings, the distal end of the thumb and the pivot
point of the elbow joint are the determining factors for the length of the
components (Fig. 3, laser line). In case of bilateral fittings, priority is
given to the prosthesis’ functionality. When adapting the length, make
sure that the prosthesis will offer the patient a high degree of freedom
of movement.
3) Minor length adaptations are possible by shortening the shaped foam part
and the forearm socket of the elbow component. It is important, however,
that the diameter for the wrist unit remains unchanged (see Section 3).
4) Mark the position of the lamination ring on the shaped foam part. After
determination of the prosthesis length remove the elbow component from
the shaped foam part.
5) Loosen the lamination ring from the elbow component (Fig. 4) (Isolate
lamination ring with silicone grease). Transfer the inner contours of the
lamination ring to the shaped foam part with light putty. This will ensure
exact positioning of the lamination ring (Fig. 5).
