In the case where (

) would be equal to 4", it is suggested that the sheet metal between the base of the
fireplace and floor be in one piece.

ON THE FLOOR OR ON A RAISED BASE OF LESS THAN 4" INSTALLATION (R VALUE FOR THE HEARTH
EXTENSION REQUIRED)
In the case where the fireplace is installed directly on the floor or on a raised base of less than 4", an R
value for the hearth extension is required. In these cases also, the joint between the hearth extension and
the fireplace (

) must be protected by a non-combustible material. For example, a sheet metal (not
included).
Note that the floor under of the fireplace should match or exceed the height of the floor protection.
