Power Cord Safety
1.
WARNING! - To reduce the risk of electric
shock, use only with an extension cord
intended for outdoor use, such as an
extension cord of cord type SW-A,
SOW-A, STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A,
SJTW-A. or SJTOW-A.
2. Extension Cord - Make sure your extension cord
is in good condition. When using an extension
cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry
the current your product will draw. An undersized
extension cord will cause a drop in line voltage
resulting in loss of power and overheating.

Table A shows the correct size to use depending
on cord length and nameplate ampere rating.
If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge.
The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the
cord. To reduce the risk of disconnection of tool
cord from the extension cord during operating:

a.
Tie cord as shown.
b.
Connect plug and receptacle.
a. Make a knot as shown in Method of
Securing Extension Cord; or
b. Use a purpose-designed plug-receptacle
retaining strap or connector.
3. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)
protection should be provided on the circuit(s)
or outlet(s) to be used for the tool. Receptacles
are available having built-in GFCI protection
and may be used for this measure of safety.
4. Do not Abuse Cord - Do not carry tool by cord
or yank it to disconnect from receptacle. Keep
cord from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
5. Use only three-wire outdoor extension cords that
have three-prong grounding plugs and grounding
receptacles that accept the tool’s plug.
6. This tool should be grounded while in use to reduce
the risk of electric shock to the operator. The tool
is equipped with a 3-conductor cord and 3-prong
grounding plug to fit the proper grounding receptacle.
The green or green and yellow conductor in the cord
is the grounding wire. Do not connect the green
or green and yellow wire to a live terminal.
3-Prong Plug
and Outlet
Your unit has a plug as illustrated above. The outlet
used should look like the outlet illustrated above.
Do not remove the grounding prong from the plug.
If the plug will not fit the outlet, have a proper
outlet installed by a qualified electrician.
7. WARNING: Handling the cord on this product will
expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State
of California to cause cancer, and birth defects or
other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.
