Flatbed Trailers
Overview
The TT150 terminal installs on the bulkhead (if present) or frame rail. The attached TT150
power cable runs from the TT150 terminal to the 7-way receptacle, which recharges the
internal battery when a truck is connected to the trailer. If the flatbed trailer has a watertight
7-way wiring harness junction box between the frame rails or three quarters of the way
back, the power cable can also be connected there to allow for more potential mounting
locations.
Thoroughly evaluate the flatbed to determine if the TT150 system can be installed on the
trailer and the best location to install it. Determine if rivets or VHB tape will be used to
secure the TT150 terminal to the trailer. Typically, rivets are recommended for installations
on flatbed trailers. If using VHB, ensure the mounting location is thoroughly cleaned to
ensure the VHB bonds securely with the location. The trailer should be free of extensive
damage in all installation areas. For specific tools required, refer to Tools and Supplies
Needed for Installation in chapter 4.
The recommended mounting location is the bulkhead if present or the front frame rail as
long as the power cable will not get pinched. When choosing a mounting location, look for
a place where the TT150 will not get hit by freight or freight loaders (fork lift, crane, etc)
and that is clear of continuous road debris being kicked up by the tires. Between the frame
rails is not recommended.
The TT150 terminal can be installed under the flatbed trailer if necessary as long as GPS
signal is present. It is recommended to install one terminal in the desired location and verify
operation for both GPS and cellular signal reception before installing additional units.
Installation
Depending on the flatbed trailer type and selected mounting location, rivets or VHB may
be used to install the TT150. The power cable connects the TT150 system terminal to the
trailer’s electrical power source at the 7-way receptacle. The power cable is 10 feet long
and can be cut as needed depending on where the TT150 terminal is installed. It may be
necessary to drill a hole through the 7-way housing to provide a route for the cable.
If installing with rivets:
1.
Select the location where the TT150 terminal will be installed/mounted. See the
previous section for criteria to consider when choosing a mounting location.
2.
Use the TT150 terminal as a template for marking the two holes needed for the rivets to
mount the device. Use the holes on the outside of the mounting ears to allow access for
a rivet gun. If rivets are used, the VHB tape should not be used for the installation.
