Section 6 - System Operation
6.1 Introduction
Compared to wired systems, a wireless system provides much simpler
installation. Based on the physical principle of the propagation of radio waves,
certain basic conditions should be observed. The following simple
recommendations are provided to Insure proper installation and correct
operation of your wireless system.
6.2 RF Communication Basics
The Model UWPC-2-NEMA sends wireless transmissions to a receiver. The
receiver checks the incoming data for accuracy and processes this data for use by
the measurement software on your PC. Radio signals are electromagnetic waves,
hence the signal becomes weaker the further it travels. While radio waves can
penetrate some solid materials like a wall, they are dampened more than when a
direct line-of-sight between the transmitting and receiving antenna exist.
6.3 Basic System Overview
A basic wireless thermocouple system is comprised of only two main
components; a signal conditioner with a built-in battery powered 2.4 GHz radio
transmitter, and a USB powered 2.4 GHz radio receiver.
