Cover Removal
Remove platen knob. Insert a flat-blade screwdriver into the three slots at the
bottom front edge of the bottom cover and pry upward. This will release the
latches that secure the top cover to the bottom. Then lift the front of the top
cover and push back to disengage the rear of the top cover.

Troubleshooting
Note: When replacing the control board, be sure to transfer the ROM chip
(Q13 in the standard model or Q4 in the SSD model) from the old control
board to the new one.
Print quality - Poorly formed characters, light print, dots missing, etc., can be
caused by an incorrect print head gap, defective print head, defective ribbon,
print head cables, or control board.
Paper motion - Paper motion problems can be caused by obstructions in the
paper path, defective drive gearing, defective paper feed motor, or defective
control board.
Communication - No communication or incorrect data. Check to ensure
printer and host configurations match. If config matches, replace serial I/F or
control PCB.
Print head alarm - (thermal) - Menu light flashes and printing halts. Normal
condition after long job or heavy printing. If unrecoverable after cooling period,
replace print head and/or control board.
Paper-out - Alarm light remains on and printing halts. Check that paper is
loaded and covering the groove on the left end of the platen. Also check for a
broken or jammed paper out lever or defective control board.
Faults - When the fault light flashes with one of the cpi lights continuously lit,
turn power off, wait 30 seconds, and then power on again. If the fault persists,
this indicates a hardware failure.

* Carriage motor, which is located on the carriage, below the print head
Blown fuse -The line fuse is located next to the AC power input connector on
the input filter board. If the fuse blows again after replacing it, this indicates a
short in the space motor drive on the control board and/or a short in the space
motor.
Note: If both the space motor and the control board are shorted, both
must be replaced simultaneously. Failure to do so may result in new
parts becoming shorted also. If needed, call technical support for
assistance in determining which component has failed. A volt/ohm meter
Special Note - SSD Version
A newer version of the OKIDATA ML-320 is now available. It is known as the
ML-320 SSD. SSD stands for Super Speed Draft, which is a faster speed of
draft print. This version may be identified by two methods. In the print quality
section of the control panel is the SSD indicator. The fourth digit of the serial
number is "D". This is important to note as several parts used in the SSD
version are not compatible with those in the older versions. These different
parts are designated with "SSD only" in the description found on the reverse of
this document. The SSD version is also available in the two different emulation
models as explained above.
