Setting braking torque
The braking torques of the ribbon mandrels
can be set by turning the red hexagon on
each mandrel. Turn clockwise to increase
the torque.
The traction exerted on the ribbon is in pro-
portion to the winding/unwinding torque. To
set the braking torque, measure the tracti-
on with a spring balance.

Procedure
1. Put an empty cardboard sleeve onto the
ribbon mandrel.
2. Wrap ribbon a few times round the card-
board sleeve. Fix the end of the ribbon to
the backing paper.
3. Twist the other end of the ribbon together
and knot it into a loop.
4. Hook the spring balance [82] into the rib-
bon loop and pull on it until the ribbon
mandrel turns slowly and steady [83].
Read off the traction.

While pulling at the rewinding mandrel, it is
essential to keep the ribbon feed roller
blocked!

The pulling force may vary within the indi-
cated tolerances (Tab. 1).
5. If necessary, increase or lower the brake
force by turning the red hexagon on the
ribbon mandrel.
– Screw in the threaded rod = turn the red
hexagon clockwise.
– Screw out the threaded rod = turn the
red hexagon anti-clockwise.

