INTRODUCTION
This guide describes how to connect to the Internet using a
Novatel Wireless Merlin
U730/U740 PC Card modem
and a
Apple® PowerBook®
with
Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger™
The
Novatel Wireless Merlin U730/U740
enables you to connect to a 3G service provider and
the Internet. The modem provides reliable wireless data communications with average speeds
between 400 and 700 kbps and easily installs in any PowerBook® Type II PCMCIA slot.
REQUIREMENTS
Before you can connect to a HSDPA service provider with a Novatel Wireless Merlin U730/U740
modem, you will need the following:
•
Novatel Wireless Merlin U740 or U730 PC Card modem and an activated SIM card
•
Apple® PowerBook® with Type II PC Card slot with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger™
•
UMTS/HSDPA account with a service provider
•
Configuration information from your service provider such as username, password, APN,
and DNS addresses.
SETTING UP YOUR EQUIPMENT
1.
Power on your Apple® PowerBook® computer.
2.
Install driver and modem script by launching
Merlin HSDPA (U730 U740).pkg
3.
Verify that the SIM card is inserted properly in the modem
4.
Insert the modem into the PowerBook® PC Card (PCMCIA) slot.
