It is recommended that a flue gas thermometer be installed on the stove pipe 18”

above the stove to monitor flue gas temperatures and ensure the stove is operating
at a safe temperature.

The stove must be installed no closer than 36” from any combustible material.  This

distance can be reduced by as much as 2/3 if a heat shield of 24ga. (or thicker)
sheet metal or cement board is used with at least a 1” air space between the heat
shield and a combustible surface.

The stove must be securely mounted on a non-flammable base and vented with 6”

stove pipe rated for wood stove applications.  The non-flammable base must be
large enough to prevent sparks or embers from the door to come in contact with
flammable materials.  Follow all stove pipe manufacturers guidelines along with
local and state codes if applicable.  North Woods Fabrication, LLC. recommends
vertical stove pipe orientation for optimum stove performance.

Use of a heat powered or electric fan is recommended to help distribute heat

around your space.  Turn off or remove the fan when opening the stove door to
keep smoke from being drawn into your space.

Stove Operation

This stove is intended to burn dry wood only (no liquid fuel or charcoal).

Perform a pre-burn on a new stove outside to allow the stove paint to off-gas and

cure.

Start small fire and slowly add wood.  Keep the door damper open.  It may also be

necessary to keep the door lightly ajar during this time depending on the flue design
and type of wood being burned to get the flue system up to optimum operating
temperature.  Keeping the flue system at roughly 500deg. F will ensure a good draft
and stove operation. A cool fire and flue system may allow smoke to escape when
the door is open and create creosote buildup in the flue system.

Gradually add larger pieces of wood as the fire grows, adjust the door damper to

keep the fire at a safe size.

Once a good coal bed is established, large pieces of wood can be added and the

door can be closed.

To stop the fire: completely close the door damper and starve the fire of oxygen.

NEVER EXTINGUISH A FIRE WITH WATER UNLESS ITS AN EMERGENCY.

Stove Maintenance

Regularly inspect and clean the flue system to reduce creosote buildup using a flue

brush or similar method.

Clean out ash daily or as needed.

Inspect the stove and flue system and ensure it if free of damage or wear.  Never

operate the stove if there is something wrong.
