Congratulations on your purchase of this product from the Niko dimmer
range.
1. LEGAL WARNINGS
- Read the complete manual before attempting installation and activating
the system.
- The installation has to be carried out by a qualified person and in compli-
ance with the statutory regulations.
- This user manual has to be handed over to the user. It has to be included
in the electrical installation file and has to be passed on to any new own-
ers. Additional copies are available on the Niko website or via the support
service.
- During installation, the following has to be taken into account (not limited
to list below):
- The statutory laws, standards and regulations;
- The state of the art technique at the moment of installation;
- This user manual, which must be read within the scope of each specific
installation, only states general regulations;
- The rules of proper workmanship
- In case of questions, you can consult Niko’s support service or contact
a registered control organisation.

2. DESCRIPTION
The 65-220 is an innovative link between dimmer and user. Each dim circuit can
consist of several dimmers connected in parallel. This way, the total available
power is virtually unlimited. The system allows for an unknown flexibility:
- the number of control points is unlimited
- every dimmer can be controlled in a different way
- every dimmer can react in a different way, to be determined by the
user
- installation and programming are very simple
To illustrate the flexibility of the system, it is useful to have a closer look at
the different components of a dimmer:
1. Push buttons
This term indicates any control element the 65-220 accepts as contact:
- push buttons (normally open, potentialfree contact 07-000)
- relays
- pulses (open collector systems, TTL output)...
2. Preset
A preset is a preset light intensity. Min. and max. light levels can be preset
in a ‘preset’. The settings are made by means of trimpotentiometers.
3. Trimpotentiometers
Small potentiometers that are soldered directly on the printed circuit board.
The setting is carried out by means of a miniature screwdriver.
4. Dia
Same meaning as preset (see 2): also called light atmosphere, …
3. OPERATION AND USE
To the 65-220, one or more N.O. contacts can be connected. This is the
only part you are confronted with as a user and is often reduced to a simple
push button. The control transforms these N.O. contacts into 1/10V analog
signals that control the dimmer. One dim circuit can be controlled by several
push buttons. You can assign a different function to every push button.
You can also control the system via every N.O. contact and potentialfree
equivalent of a push button, as e.g. relais, pulses (TTL min. 50ms), infrared
receiver (see user manual infrared transmitter).
Different push buttons can retrieve the same function in parallel from
different places (see fig. S165200). You can extend the available capac-
ity per circuit by connecting the different dimmers in parallel. Choosing
the function (the way in which the dimmer reacts to a command) is very
simple: it suffices to choose the connection terminal that corresponds to
the chosen function.

Note:
an unlimited number of push buttons can be connected in parallel.
Turn left: min. light level (to completely OFF)
Turn right: max. light level (to completely ON)
Turn left: min. speed = longest time
Turn right: max. speed = shortest time
The level adjustment can be viewed in real time by connecting the terminal
to the common during the regulation of the trimmer (= contact closed).
If you bridge the resp. terminals, any non-contradictory combination of
functions can be retrieved simultaneously. E.g.: if you connect the terminals
of the resp. interfaces to the same push button, preset 2 can be retrieved for
different circuits simultaneously. This allows for dividing e.g. large conference
rooms into different zones. Every zone can then be controlled separately or
every combination of joined zones can be controlled together.
3.2. Start up
Preset 1 is automatically retrieved when starting up or after a power cut. It
is therefore advisable to set the highest light level in preset 1. If you do not
wish to use this function, set preset 1 to 0%.
3.3. Cable sections
The system is galvanically isolated from the mains. A control cable with a
0,14mm
2
section suffices. The max. voltage is 30V. The distance between
the different components (dimmers, interfaces, push buttons) is max. 1500m
if a 2,5mm
2
control cable is used.
3.4. Usage warnings
- The dimmers are never electrically seperated from the mains by controlling
the push buttons. All components, incl. the lamps, are always live, even
if the lights are ‘off’.
- Safety is only guaranteed if the control is powered by an insulated low
voltage power supply (max. 24V). This essential condition is fulfilled if this
power supply is branched off on the resp. terminal of a Silicon dimmer.
- The 65-220 control can never be connected to the mains. A safe distance
to and isolation from the mains cables is required.
4. GUARANTEE PROVISIONS
- Period of guarantee: 2 years from date of delivery. The delivery date is
the invoice date of purchase of the product by the consumer. If there is
no invoice, the date of production applies.
- The consumer is obliged to inform Niko in writing about the defect, within
two months after stating the defect.
- In case of a failure to conform, the consumer has the right to a repair or
replacement (decided by Niko) free of charge.
- Niko cannot be held liable for a defect or damage as a result of an incorrect
installation, improper or careless use or wrong usage or transformation
of the goods.
- The compulsory regulations of the national legislation concerning the
sales of consumer goods and the protection of the consumers in the
countries where Niko sells, directly or via sister or daughter companies,
chain stores, distributors, agents or permanent sales representatives,
take priority over the rules and regulations mentioned above.
