Power Systems
Power supplies for the ZephIR system are provided through
primary and secondary supply systems.
Primary power is via a wide range a.c. input charging
system or directly from a regulated d.c. diesel / battery
hybrid power supply.
CAUTION - THIS EQUIPMENT MUST BE EARTHED WHEN
POWERED FROM MAINS SUPPLY.
Secondary supply (backup power) is provided to stabilise
system voltages or to support continued operation of the
system for short periods of time during power outages or
generator servicing.
System power requirements are 28v d.c. @ 96VA for
continuous operation of the system in temperatures ranging
from 0
O
C to + 25
O
C. Outside of this temperature range,
additional power is required to support cooling and heating
requirements for the system.
Batteries within the ZephIR system are designed to
provide back-up power should a power failure occur. When
discharged or partially discharged, the charging of the
batteries will add a further 72VA power requirement.
Peak power requirements for the system are 28v d.c. @ 240
VA.
To ensure that system components are not damaged and
that performance from components such as batteries and
power supplies are not impaired in low temperatures (<0
O
C),
a pre-heat is required for a period of time depending on the
severity of the temperatures (~45 minutes in moderately
cold temperatures).
During this pre-heat period, 60 VA of heating elements are
included across the three main system components. This
will bring the pod temperatures from -25
O
C to 0
O
C in a
reasonable period of time.
Pre-heat of the ZephIR system is automated and does
not require operator interation. If the ZephIR is in pre-heat
mode then the centre led within the on/off button will
be lit and only the ‘B supply’ LED on the front panel will
be illuminated. On completion of the pre-heat cycle, the
ZephIR system will power-up as normal.
