Checking Vane Wear

The sliding vanes in the 887 are made of a very durable Kevlar material.

Their wear and related estimated useful life are dependent on many

factors, such as RPM, operating vacuum/pressure level, type of material

being pumped and hours of service.  We recommend at least an annual

inspection of the vanes which can be easily accessed thru the intake filter

housing, once filter is removed.

•  Be sure the pump is cool and that drive system is off so it cannot

accidently engage.

- Think Safety!

•  Remove the four knobs on top of the filter housing.

•  Lift off the filter cover .

•  Remove final filter assembly from its pilot.

•  Using a probe, determine the amount of vane wear, noting that a new

vane is roughly flush with the outside diameter of the rotor (i.e. a new

vane fills a vane slot completely).  If the vane is recessed (worn) more

than a ¼” into the slot it is time to replace all of them.

•  Vanes should be replaced in sets and it’s always a good idea to have an

extra set of vanes on hand for emergencies.

•  Be sure O-Ring remains in filter cover during reassembly.

Checking Vane Wear________________________________________________________________

We recommend checking vane wear at least every 12 months.

Be sure the pump is cool and that drive system is off (cannot accidently engage)

- Think Safety!

Remove the four knobs on top of the filter housing

  Lift off the filter cover

Remove final filter assembly from its pilot

Reach down to the rotor to feel the vanes

- A slide ruler can also be used to measure the wear of the vane

A new vane is flush with the outside

diameter of the rotor.

If any of the seven vanes is over ¼”

below the outside diameter of the

rotor, it’s time to replace the vanes

Vanes should be replaced is sets

and it’s always a good idea to have

an extra set of vanes on hand for

emergencies.

Be sure O-Ring remains in filter

cover during reassembly
