Getting Started with SCXI

SCXI-1180 Feedthrough Panel

You can use the SCXI-1180 feedthrough panel, in conjunction with an
SCXI cable assembly, to route signals from the front connector of the
SCXI-1180 to a 50-pin I/O connector on the SCXI cable assembly. With
the SCXI-1180, you can integrate signals that do not require conditioning
into the SCXI chassis and use channels that the chassis is not already using.
This is useful if you need to use the DAQ devices analog output channels
or connect unconditioned signals to unused analog input channels.

For example, the SCXI-1100 drives only two of the DAQ device analog
input channels, channel 0 and channel 1; if you connect an SCXI-1100
module to a DAQ device, channels 2 through 7 remain available for use
with unconditioned signals. You should always install the SCXI-1180 panel
in the SCXI chassis slot immediately to the right of the SCXI module
connected to the DAQ device to ensure easy connection to the cable
assembly. Other uses for the SCXI-1180 are described in the
SCXI-1180/1181 User Manual.

SCXI-1181 Breadboard Module

The SCXI-1181 module has a breadboard area for integrating custom
circuitry into the SCXI system. Refer to the SCXI-1180/1181 User Manual
for more information.

SCXI-2400 Serial Communications Module

The SCXI-2400 serial communications module adds RS-232 and RS-485
serial communications to any SCXI chassis, including the SCXI-1000,
SCXI-1000DC, and SCXI-1001 chassis. You can either connect the
SCXI-2400 module directly to the RS-232 serial COM port of a computer,
or you can connect the SCXI-2400 module to an RS-485 network for
long-distance, multidrop configurations.

If your SCXI chassis includes any analog input modules, the chassis must
include the SCXI-1200 DAQ module to digitize the conditioned analog
signals. The digitized data, available on the rear parallel connector of the
SCXI-1200, is communicated to the SCXI-2400 using the short parallel
port cable provided with the SCXI-2400 module. Therefore, you should
install the SCXI-1200 module in a slot adjacent to the SCXI-2400 module.
