Entering text
Windows 7 provides a virtual writing pad and on-screen keyboard that you can use to enter
text on your tablet PC. Windows calls this the tablet PC input panel. Use the writing pad to
convert your handwriting to text (digital ink) or tap characters using the on-screen
keyboard.
Here’s the input panel open to the writing pad.
Opening the tablet PC input panel
The tablet PC input panel often opens automatically when you tap in a text field. You can
also tap the tab located on the left side of the screen to expand the input panel.
To open the input panel either

Tap at the place you want to enter text, such as in a text box. Then tap the input panel
icon.

Tap the input panel tab on the left edge of the screen.

To switch between the writing pad and the on-screen keyboard, tap the appropriate icon.

You can dock the input panel to the top or bottom of your screen. From the top of the input
panel, select
Tools
then
Docking
and select the preferred location.

:
You may not see the input panel icon on the left of the screen if you are viewing your
desktop through desktop virtualization software such as a Citrix application.

Using the handwriting recognition program
The digitizer software quickly recognizes your handwriting because the automatic learning
tool collects data about the words you use and how you write them and stores the data
under your user profile.
You can also teach the digitizer your writing style. By entering several writing samples, you
“train” the digitizer to recognize your handwriting.
