Machine Description
Model 85AM
Drum Karrier is designed to lift, transport and dispense a standard 55-gallon
steel drum 22.5” in diameter. The maximum capacity is 800 Lb.
Important
Review the Material Safety Data Sheet(s) for the material(s) in the drum(s) and take
1.
all necessary precautions. Safety shoes, work gloves, hard hat and other personal
protective devices are recommended.
Please read all instructions thoroughly before attempting to operate your new Morse drum handler.
2.
The 85 Series Drum Karriers have a maximum capacity rating of 800 Lb. for a FULL drum and 500 Lb. for a HALF-FULL drum, and
3.
are designed to lift and move a drum of the size and type noted above. DO NOT exceed this rating. Exceeding this rating or handling
drums other than those mentioned above is unsafe and could result in equipment damage, excessive wear, awkward or dangerous
handling.
When loading, unloading, operating, or maintaining your MORSE drum handler, always use care and good judgment. Maintain secure
4.
footing and a firm hold. Keep hands and loose clothing away from all moving parts. Never allow anyone to be below any part of a raised
drum handler or drum. Read operating instructions and review the pictures in the sales brochure before operation.
The 85 Series are a “Group 1 structural and mechanical” below-the-hook lifting device which are covered by the American National
5.
Standard ASME B30.20. The user should comply with all aspects of this standard.
Operating Instructions
Start with Drum Karrier on the floor. Lower hoist and
1.
engage hoist hook to lift Drum Karrier.
Raise hoist to lift Drum Karrier clear of floor and transport
2.
it to the drum.
Suspend Drum Karrier at a height which aligns drum
3.
saddle with center of drum.
With Cinch Chain (item 103) hanging freely, push Drum
4.
Karrier against drum so that saddle will encircle drum.
Secure the drum: drape the Cinch Chain (item 103) across
5.
the face of the drum and engage a link in notch in hub of
ratchet (shown right). Pull up on ratchet handle to tighten
chain. If the chain doesn’t cinch tightly on the drum, lift the
pawl (item105) to loosen and release the chain and try
again with a different link in the notch. Firm hand pressure
on the ratchet handle should tighten the chain sufficiently
to hold the drum. DO NOT use mechanical aids such as a
pipe to extend handle for extra leverage.
Either one of the two spring loaded plunger tilt-locks may
6.
be locked to hold the drum upright. It is not necessary to
lock both of them.
Raise hoist and position drum at pouring station.
7.
Before unlocking the tilt-lock(s) to permit tilting the drum, it is recommended that you steady the drum and be prepared for its possible
8.
tendency to tilt toward its heavier side.
With tilt-locks unlocked, manually tilt the drum for pouring. The drum pouring angle may be varied or it can be locked in horizontal
9.
position by one of the tilt-locks.
After emptying, rotate drum back to vertical position and lower hoist to return the empty drum.
10.
To remove drum: Pull ratchet handle to relieve pressure on ratchet teeth. Lift pawl handle (item 105) to release teeth engagement and
11.
rotate ratchet to loosen chain and allow its removal from notch.
Maintenance
Lubricate ratchet, pawl, tilt locks, fulcrum shafts and other moving parts periodically to maintain free action and reduce wear.
1.
Periodically inspect all moving parts, framework and contact areas for signs of wear, fatigue or loosening. Tighten, adjust or replace
2.
parts as necessary to prevent failure and maintain proper function.
