on the hanging locker near the CO monitor and
near the TV. Refer to the Ventilation System chap-
ter for more information on operating the hatches
and port windows.
10.6 Mid Berth
The aft berth is located aft of the cabin steps. It is
equipped with a berth, 12-volt lighting and open-
ing port windows. Access for the forward bilge
pump, water tank and sump pump is located below
the berth. A removable panel in the starboard
cabin head liner above the aft berth provides ac-
cess to service the helm wiring, electronics and
rigging components.
Daylight and fresh air is provided to this area by
opening port windows. Additional lighting is pro-
vided a 12-volt light that is controlled by a switch
on the light fi xture.
10.7 Cabin Woodwork
Cabin Floors and Steps
The galley fl oor and steps are made of maple.
They are fi nished with a high quality urethane
fi nish that will provide years of protection with
proper care and treatment. It is important to
avoid tracking sand and dirt on the cabin fl oor and
steps. Sand and dirt acts like sand paper and will
eventually sand off the fi nish in the traffi c areas.
The wood can be lightly sanded and refi nished as
necessary.
Use caution when varnishing wood steps. Var-
nish or polyurethane will fi ll the grain and make
the wood slippery. You should use a satin or fl at
varnish and make sure you replace the nonskid
strips when you are fi nished.
The wood fl oors and steps can be vacuumed and
cleaned with a mixture of water and Murphy’s Oil
Soap. Wipe the wood dry with a clean towel.
The carpeted areas are cleaned and maintained
in the same fashion as the carpeting in your
home.
Walls, Cabinets and Trim
The hardwood used for the wall trim moldings
is fi nished with a high quality urethane varnish.
The walls themselves and the cabinet doors are
made of a laminated, simulated wood that re-
