Instruction Manual for Mini AC Line
Congratulation! Thank you for choosing a product of Model Motors Ltd. Brushless motors with
neodymium magnets and a carbon fibre case are manufactured using the latest technology from
the finest materials. Twin ballraced hardened steel shaft and overall robust but lightweight con-
struction ensures very long service life. To enjoy trouble-free operation of your new motor plea-
se take time to read through these instructionsl.
More information covering the use and recommended propellers can be found on our

Motor Installation
The motor should be rigidly mounted using two (or four) M2,5 bolts screwed into the front plate.
The fixing screws should to be screwed at least 3 mm into the front plate but not more than 4
mm (any more than 4mm, and the motor windings can be damaged). The mount should have
holes corresponding to the holes in the front plate to allow proper cooling of your motor. Use of
VMGM gearboxes is recommended with MiniAC motors.
EXTREME
- MiniAC EXTREME is supplied with a factory fitted and ready to run VMGM gearbox.
The MiniAC EXTREME can simply be fitted in a model and flown. VMGM gearboxes need to be
cleaned and re-lubricated every hour of running time using the high quality grease that is sup-
plied.
Direction of Rotation and Motor Timing:
The direction or rotation can be selected by simply exchanging the two outer cables while the
middle one remains unchanged. The optimum timing is self-regulated, however the timing can
be changed when using high end programmable speed controllers.
Power cables
MINI AC motors are supplied without power cables.
The three motor power cables from your speed controller can be simply soldered to the three
motor terminals attached to the motor back plate and covered in heat shrink tubing. Be careful
to avoid a short circuit between the connection and the motor rear plate. Keep the cables as short
as possible to help the efficiency of the entire power system.
Cooling:
As with internal combustion engines, sufficient cooling is essential. Please note you have got a
high performance electric motor that could be working under high current loading, and can pro-
duce some heat. Overheating of your motor causes increased wear in bearings, and can also
cause partial (or even complete if 130 ˚C exceeded) demagnetisation of magnets decreasing
performance of the motor.
Proper motor installation: allow cooling air to flow through holes in the front plate the same as to
motor case. There is a simple rule of thumb: the area of cooling air intake(s) on your model must
be at least the same as the total area of openings on your motor multiplied by two. And - the area
of cooling air outlet(s) should be even larger to allow for expansion of the heated air.
Care and Maintenance:
Avoid running the motor under dusty, moist conditions. Avoid foreign matter getting into the
motor. Beware of small bolts, screws and other small magnetic items that can be caught by the
magnets of your motor during installation or maintenance. Do not disassemble your motor.
Please note: bearings of this motor are greased with a special high quality grease that will last
throughout the expected life of your motor. Do not use any organic solvents, cleaners or deter-
gents to clean your motor. These agents may wash out the grease and decrease the life of your
motor.
Should there be some dirt in your motor (after an accident) do not try to rotate the shaft. Careful-
ly remove the dirt with compressed air. In the case of more serious damage, you will need to con-
tact your dealer for the motor to be sent to an authorised service centre. Never try to straighten
a bent shaft, If the hardened steel shaft is bent there is inevitably more serious damage inside.
If you are in doubt, please contact the manufacturer to get qualified assistance or to arrange
repair.
Avoid unnecessary dismantling of your motor.
Safety Notes:
Fit only undamaged and balanced propellers, and securely tighten with a wrench. Never touch,
or allow any object to come in contact with the rotating propeller. A weakened or loose propeller
may disintegrate or be thrown off. This failure could result in serious injury. Inspect the propeller
after each flight. Discard any propeller that has nicks, scratches or any other visible defect.
Discard the propeller after a crash or contact with ground during a heavy landing even if the pro-
peller looks undamaged. There could be internal stress or damage resulting in a failure later. For
their safety, keep all onlookers (especially small children) well back (at least 20 feet or 6 metres)
when preparing your model for flight. Keep the propeller pointed away from you and walk well
clear of spectators.
First switch on your transmitter, check the position of the throttle stick (and related switches if
any). Only then connect your power pack to the speed controller and switch on the receiver.
Always leave sufficient room for the propeller to rotate (in case there might be a speed controller
failure or interference). Blocked propellers can result in damage to your controller and motor, or
even cause a fire.
