Two green LEDs show the status of the LSM-2. The LED labeled ONLINE indicates if any circuit on
the module is busy. The other LED, labeled REMOVE, lights up only when the system has been
powered down and the condition is safe to remove the module from the bay. Also, when secured in
the chassis bay, the metal front panel of the module connects to chassis ground to suppress
electromagnetic interference (EMI).
When the system is in the default configuration, all trunks are configured for DTMF signaling. If
necessary, some or all of the trunks can be reprogrammed for dial-pulse signaling through DB
Programming.
CO circuits are assigned hardware address numbers according to the module’s bay in the chassis
and the location of the circuit on the module. For example, when using the initial configuration (see
paragraph 3.91), CO circuit 02.02.01 is the second circuit on the LSM-2 or LSM-4 installed in bay
2. Each trunk module circuit is assigned a six-digit circuit number XX.YY.ZZ, where XX = the module
bay location (01–03), YY = the circuit number on the module (01 or 02), and ZZ = whether the circuit
has more than one purpose (currently, 01 only).
When the system is in the default configuration, the first four buttons on each phone are assigned
as CALL buttons for incoming call indication/access. The ANSWER button may also be used to
access incoming calls. No individual trunk buttons or trunk group buttons are assigned. Button
assignments can be designated in DB Programming. For more information, refer to the

Four-Port Loop Start Module
The four-port loop start module (LSM-4) supports four CO [local exchange] trunks. The LSM-4
functions the same as the LSM-2. For complete installation instructions, see “Installing a Four-Port
. For programming refer to

Basic Rate Module
The Basic Rate Module (BRM-2) provides Basic Rate 2 interface ISDN service for communication
and is available only in the European market. Each of the two BRI ports consists of two bearer (B)
channels and one data (D) channel with High-level Data Link Control (HDLC) support. Each BRM-2
module in the chassis supports a total of four BRI trunks.
NOTICE
LSMs contain no field-replaceable parts. If any insurmountable problem with an LSM should occur in the
field, return the entire module to Mitel for testing and possible repair. Failure to follow this policy will void
the warranty on the module.
NOTE
Single line phones generate their own DTMF tones when dialing. If used on dial-pulse trunks,
both the DTMF tones generated by the phone and the dial-pulse signals generated by the
system are sent to the CO, which may result in a problem if the CO recognizes both. To avoid
this problem, single line sets should be restricted to ARS-only when using dial-pulse trunks.
Then, only the ARS-generated dial-pulse signals will be sent to the CO.
IMPORTANT
Basic Rate Interface (BRI) capability is supported only in Mitel Europe installations.
