Jum p Starting
W arning!
Failure to follo w these d irec
tions will cause dam age to the
electronic com ponents, and
can lead to a battery explosion
and severe injury or death.
Never lean o ver batteries w hile
connecting or jum p starting,
you m ight get injured.
Battery fluid contains sulfuric
acid. Do not allo w this fluid to
com e in contact w ith eyes,
skin or clothing. In case it
does, im m ediately flush
affected area w ith w ater,
and seek m edical help if
necessary.
A battery will also produce
hydrogen gas, w hich is
flam m able and very explosive.
Keep flam es or sparks aw ay
from battery, avoid im proper
connection of ju m p er cables,
sm oking etc..
Read all instructions before
proceeding.
If the battery is discharged, the
engine should be started with
jum pe r cables and the (12 V)
battery of another vehicle.
The battery is located in the trunk
under the trunk floor.
Proceed as follows:
1. Position the vehicle with the
charged battery so that the
jum per cables will reach, but
never let the vehicles touch.
Make sure the jum pe r cables do
not have loose or m issing
insulation.
2. On both vehicles:
• Turn off engine and all lights
and accessories, except
hazard warning flashers or
w ork lights.
• A pply parking brake and shift
selector lever to position “ P”.
Im portant!
3. C lam p one end of the first
ju m p e r cable to the positive
(+) term inal of the discharged
battery and the o ther end to the
positive (+) term inal of the
charged battery. M ake sure the
cable clam ps do not touch any
o ther m etal parts.
4. C lam p one end of the second
ju m p e r cable to the grounded
negative ( - ) term inal of the
charged battery and the final
connection to the negative
( -) term inal of the discharged
battery.
Im portant!
5. Start engine of the vehicle with
the charged battery and run at
high idle. M ake sure the cables
are not on or near pulleys, fans,
or o ther parts that will move
w hen the engine is started.
Allow the discharged battery to
charge fo r a few m inutes. Start
engine of the disabled vehicle in
the usual m anner.
