4. FAULT FINDING
The PLB is a sealed assembly and must not be opened by a Service Agent. If any fault is
suspected, the PLB should be returned to McMurdo Limited for service.
Battery failure:
In the event of a battery failure the unit should be assessed to ensure that the product is not
drawing current in the ‘off’ state. To do this you will need a Digital Voltmeter (DVM) capable
of measuring micro amps. The current should be less than 1uA.
If the unit is drawing current then the unit will need to be returned to McMurdo Customer
Service for further investigation.
5. REPAIR PROCEDURES
Repair policy for this PLB is repair by replacement of major sub-assemblies. This is a factory
procedure; there is no provision for field servicing.
Other than this, repair is limited to replacing those parts of the PLB which have suffered
mechanical wear and tear; for example, if the PLB has been activated the tamper cover must
be replaced.
