3) INSTALLATION
Always ensure the oil sump is correctly filled with 10-30W multigrade oil for petrol-
driven motors, or ESSO PLUS MOTOR OIL as indicated in the table.
Fill the tank with normal or super grade petrol. Unleaded petrol can also be used as
long as this contains additives.
4) USING THE GENERATOR
START-STOP
Before starting the generator, make sure no appliances are connected.
When the motor is cold, close the STARTER lever on the carburettor and give a sharp pull
on the self-winding cord.
Once the motor has started, return the STARTER lever to its original position.
Before stopping the motor, disconnect appliances and decrease the number of revs by
means of the welding power adjustment knob until the motor is running at minimum, and
press the motor stop button.
USE AS WELDER
The MULTIWORK 171 units permit welding with all types of electrodes from a diameter of
1.5 mm to a diameter of 6 mm.
To adjust welding power, turn the knob on the instrument panel. Turn the commutator on
position
(1)
for welding current in the range 30 ÷ 70 amp, and on position
(2)
for welding
current in range 70 ÷ 170 amp.
USE AS GENERATOR
The MULTIWORK 171B units can generate 2000 watt 230V.
The generators feature short circuit and overload cutouts.
Before connecting up appliances, set the generator to the correct voltage (230V); adjust the
motor revs by means of the welding power adjustment knob.
5) SAFETY DEVICES
To prevent breakdowns due to wrong manoeuvres or bad maintenance, the generator
features the following safety devices:
MINIMUM OIL LEVEL; shuts off the motor when the level of the oil in the sump reaches
minimum.
SHORT CIRCUITS; in the event of a short circuit on the single phase, the circuit breaker
interrupts power.
OVERHEATING, in the event of overloads on the welder circuit, the alternator is protected
from overheating. A thermostat switches off the excitation of alternator. In this case, the
generator must be left to cool down for about ten minutes, after which it is possible to restart
operation, trying to respect the welding cycles shown on the technical specifications plate.
