Information for the user
Before the use of the ladder
1. Are you physically healthy enough to use the ladder? Certain health conditions, taking medicines, consuming alcohol or drugs
can endanger health and safety when using the ladders;
2. When transporting a ladder on a roof girder or in a lorry, the ladder must be adequately placed and fastened to prevent
eventual damages;
3. After the delivery and before the first use of a ladder, check the condition and proper functioning of all parts of the ladder;
4. Before starting the work day and use of the ladder, check if the ladder is damaged and if it is safe enough to be used;
5. Professional users must perform periodic reviews of the ladders;
6. Make sure that the ladder is adequate for the use in a certain situation;
7. Do not use damaged ladder;
8. Remove all dirt from the ladder before use f. e. wet colour, dirt, oil, snow etc.;
9. Before the use of the ladder at work, a risk estimation must be carried out considering legal regulations of the country where the
ladder is used.
Placing the ladder and finding its position
1. The ladder must be placed in its proper position, f.e. leaning ladders must be placed under a proper angle (inclination angle must be
approximately 1 : 4), rungs or steps must be placed horizontally, a two-legged ladder must be fully open
2. If locking devices are placed on the ladder, they must be entirely fastened before use;
3. The ladder must stand on a flat and immovable ground;
4. The leaning ladder must be leaned on a straight, solid surface and must be secured adequately before use f. e. by fastening it or by using
any other adequate device to enable stability of the ladder;
5. Do not move the ladder into other position from the top of the ladder;
6. When placing the ladder make sure you will not hit any object or obstacle or person f.e. pedestrian, vehicle or door. If possible, close the door
(but no emergency exit) and windows in the working area;
7. Acquire all information concerning risks present in the working area due to electrical equipment, f. e. high voltage power lines or any other
electrical devices exposed;
8. The ladder must be placed on its feet and not on rungs or steps;
9. Do not place the ladder on wet floor (f. e. ice, shining or very dirty floor) except if you prevent eventual sliding of the ladder by
means of any other additional measures – taking care of cleanness of dirty spots.
The use of the ladder
1. Be careful not to exceed maximum load of the ladder;
2. Do not lean over the ladder too much on either side; the belt buckle of the user must always be between the two sides of the ladder, the
user must stand on the same level of each step or rung.
3. On bigger heights do not step out from the ladder without additional safety f. e. Fastening or any other adequate device to enable
stability of the ladder;
4. Do not use a two-legged ladder to climb up to other levels;
5. Do not stand on upper three steps/ rungs of the leaning ladder;
6. Without platform or tool shelf and safety rail for hands /knees, do not stand on the upper two steps or rungs of the two-legged
ladder;
7. Do not stand on the upper four steps/rungs of the two-legged ladder with placed extension ladder;
8. Do only use the ladder for non-demanding and short-lasting activities;
