Ultimate MINI Performance
Mark the drilling points for the driver’s side.
Similar to the install of the passenger side tunnels, have someone
help you by holding the tunnels of the driver’s side up to the brackets. Use the center wing to set the installation
distance between the driver’s side and passenger side main tunnels
.
Use a straight edge or similar tool to make sure that the passenger side and driver’s side main tunnels extends
from the rear of the car by equal amounts.
Outline where the brackets sit on the tunnels. Trace the outline of the brackets onto the diffuser tunnels. Be
sure to do this for the front Entry Tunnel and Rear Main Tunnel.
If you have the Carbon Fiber option or if you
have already painted your tunnels, use painter’s tape before making any marks.
Mark the location of the
bumper bracket on the steel bumper before removal.
Drill the driver’s side tunnels.
Start with a 1/16” (1.5mm) drill and drill a pilot hole at the marked mounting
locations. Final drill using a 3/8” (10mm) forstner bit, roto-broach cutter or conventional twist drill (not
recommended) to final size all the predrilled holes. Note that the hole will be slightly larger than the M6
hardware provided. This will make it easier for you to final align the tunnels and reduce some of the mounting
stresses at the attachment points (the provided large diameter washers will ensure safe and secure attachment).
Always use a wood block as support on the back side of the part when drilling holes. This will reduce tear out
when drilling the required mounting holes.
Re-Install the brackets and all tunnels.
Use the provided M6 x 16mm lg Button Head screws and flat washers to
install the front and rear tunnel to the driver’s side of the car.
Install Middle Wing.
The mounting holes for the middle wing are pre drilled.
Install the wing using the provided
#10-32 x ½” lg button head screws and small flat washers.
Shape the rear apron.
Make a
template of the shape of the
rear edge of each tunnel to
use as a cutting guide. Use a
Dremel tool (or similar tool)
with a plastic cutting wheel to
cut out the lower portion of
the rear apron in the shape of
the two tunnels. Patience and
marking out your path will
ensure a good fit. Be sure to
use painter’s tape to mark
out your cutting path and to
protect the rest of the apron
as you cut. File and sand all
the edges smooth once a
good fit is achieved.
