Never stand directly below the device when it is being mounted, removed or serviced. Have a qualified
technician check the device once a year and once before you bring it into service.
Install the device in a location with few passers-by that is inaccessible to unauthorised persons.
Overhead mounting requires extensive experience: calculating workload limits, determining the installation
material to be used… Have the material and the device itself checked regularly. Do not attempt to install
the device yourself if you lack these qualifications as improper installation may result in injuries.
Make sure there is no flammable material within a 0.5 m radius of the device.
Have a qualified electrician carry out the electric connection.
Connect the device to the mains with the power plug. All devices must be powered directly off a grounded
switched circuit and cannot be run off a rheostat or dimmer circuit, even if the rheostat or dimmer channel
is used solely for 0 % to 100 % switching.
The installation has to be approved by an expert before the device is taken into service.
6.2
Installation
You can install the device on its base for a vertical, upwards spray
[A]
, or on its side for a horizontal spray
[B]
.
It is also possible to mount the device upside down for a vertical, downwards spray
[C]
.
Caution:
Only place the device in the positions as shown in illustrations
[A,B,C]
. Using the device in a different
position may cause irreparable damage.
Always place the device level, do not tilt.
1.
Choose a suitable mounting spot.
Place the device on a level, flat surface.
For mounting the device upside down for a downwards spray, proceed as follows:
2.
Unscrew the bracket
[3]
that holds the smoke liquid reservoir in place
[D]
and take the reservoir out.
3.
Turn the device upside down and unscrew the base plate from the bottom
[E]
.
4.
Turn the device upside down again and screw the base plate to the top side of the device
[F]
.
5.
Turn the device upside down again and place the reservoir back in the device.
6.
Place the bracket over the reservoir and screw it down
[F]
.
6.3
Preparation
1.
Unscrew the cap
[2]
of the reservoir
[1]
.
2.
Pour high quality smoke liquid into the reservoir. Do not overfill, and make sure not to spill any liquid on
the device. Use only smoke liquids as specified in this user manual.
3.
Place the cap back on the reservoir and tighten. Make sure that the ends of the plastic tubes inside reach
the bottom of the reservoir. Make sure the tubes are not squeezed or twisted.
4.
Plug in the remote control
[14]
.
5.
Connect the power cord
[10]
to a suitable mains outlet and switch the device on
[9]
.
The device starts heating up. This takes about 4 minutes. During heating, the display shows “HEAT”. When the
machine is ready to operate, the display shows the DMX address.
6.4
DMX-512 Connection
When applicable, connect an XLR cable to the female XLR output of a controller (not incl.) and the other
side to the male XLR input
[8,12]
of the device. Multiple devices can be linked through serial linking. The
linking cable shall be a dual core, screened cable with XLR input and output connectors.
Maximum recommended serial data link distance is 500 meters (1640 ft). Maximum recommended number
of devices on a serial data link is 32 devices.
A DMX terminator is recommended for installations where the DMX cable has to run a long distance or is in
an electrically noisy environment (e.g. discos). The terminator prevents corruption of the digital control
signal by electrical noise. The DMX terminator is simply an XLR plug with a 120 Ω resistor between pins 2
and 3, which is then plugged into the XLR output socket
[7,13]
of the last device in the chain.
7.
Operation
The device can be used in the following modes:
stand-alone mode with the remote control
with a DMX512 controller.
7.1
Operation Notes
Never run the device without liquid: this may cause permanent damage to the device.
If you experience low output, mechanical noise or no output at all, unplug the device immediately. Check
the fluid level, the fuse, and the power cord. If all appears to be working properly, plug in the unit again. If
