• Slide the power rotaon unit up the piston unit so that the drive pin engages the bush in the
underside of the piston head. The drive pin is exposed and care must be exercised in handling
the power rotaon unit so as to prevent the drive pins from being bent.
• Clamp the power rotaon unit firmly against the collar of the piston unit by ghtening the
three grub screws with the hexagon wrench provided.
2.2 Electrical Connecon
• The power rotaon unit is manufactured to suit 110...130 VAC as well as 220...240 VAC
at 50/60 Hz, and cannot be switched between supply voltages.
• Two metres of three core PVC insulated and sheathed cable, terminated with a BS4343/
CEE 17 2-pole and earth plug are supplied.
• The plug must be inserted in the appropriately rated socket.
3. Operaon
3.1 General procedure
The deadweight tester to which the power rotaon unit is fi ed, should be operated in the
normal manner as described in the appropriate operang instrucons
. The power

rotaon unit should only be switched on when the piston head, with the loaded weights, has
risen and is floang in either the blue or red loads corresponding to low and high pressure
ranges. The motor must not be switched on without any pressure applied to the piston unit
otherwise severe overheang of the electric motor may occur.
Once the power rotaon unit is fi ed to a piston unit, all weight rotaon is by the acon of the
rotaon unit. The weight cannot be rotated by hand with a power rotaon unit fi ed, and if
return to menual rotaon of the weights is required, the power rotaon unit must be disengaged
from the piston head. Disengagement of the power rotaon unit may be achieved by slackening
the clamping grub screws and sliding the unit down the piston unit.
3.2 Maintenance
In normal use, the power rotaon unit will require minimal maintenance. The final drive pulley
will require occasional lubricaon and the drive pin belt may need replacement due to normal
wear.
3.2.1 General service procedure
• Swith off power rotaon unit and disconnect from electricity supply.
• Loosen the three grub screws that clamp the power rotaon unit onto the piston and cylinder
unit and slide the rotaon unit down onto the tester base.
• Unscrew and remove the piston and cylinder unit and adaptor from the tester base and slide
off the power rotaon unit.
• Remove the three M2.5 screws securing the cover to the casing and remove the cover.
• Access may now be gained to the major components.
