3. Changing the battery
The lithium battery in your VHP Perpetual Calendar will last for about 10
years. An E.O.L. (end of life) indication warns when the battery is about
to expire by making the seconds-hand jump every four seconds. You
should then have the battery changed at a Longines’ retailer as soon as
possible.
4. Making sure your watch stays water-resistant
Your watch is water-resistant. But if it receives a blow, it may lose its
water-resistancy without you realizing it. Ask for its water-resistancy to
be checked when you have your watch serviced.

The date advances or goes back as the hours-hand passes through
midnight. Check that the watch is showing the relevant a.m. or p.m.
time.
Setting the time to the second (3):
The seconds-hand stops when
you pull the crown out to position 3. Set the time by turning the crown
either way. The date remains unaltered, even if the hands go through
midnight. The time of the correction (a.m. or p.m.) is retained in memory.
At a broadcast or telephone time signal, push the crown back against
the case to restart the seconds.
Displaying the month and the leap-year cycle (0):
Keeping the
crown pushed down for more than three seconds brings the number of
the month (i.e. 5 for May) to the window. The number stays on display
for 8 seconds, replaced for another 8 seconds by the Roman numeral
for the year in the leap-year cycle. IV indicates the leap year. Thereafter,
the date resumes its place in the window.
2. Setting the date
To set the date follow the instructions for setting the time-zone. With the
crown in position 2, turn the hours-hand backwards or forwards around
the dial past midnight until the right date appears. Make sure you set the
hours hand to the a.m. or p.m. (past noon) time as appropriate.
